CoasterMeg and the Sunnyvale Coasters Walk Again in 2002!

Yes, folks, I'm doing it again. I figured that since I did the walk in an orthopedic boot last year, I didn't get the true flavor of the experience. So this year my goal is not only to top my fund-raising from last year, but to actually walk all 60 miles.

But why? Why did I do this last year? And why am I doing it again this year?

First, because one woman in eight will be diagnosed with breast cancer. It used to be one in nine, which was awful enough. Either statistic - one in nine, or one in eight - is perfectly appalling. Think of the number of women you know, and imagine that for every 8 of them, 1 will be diagnosed. Awful. Although I see how far research and education and awareness have brought us through the years, I realize more can be done.

Second, because I can. Sure, I'm out of shape and getting old and wheezy. But I can walk. And I can raise money that may change the statistic, or to help a woman who is one of the statistics.

Third, my aunt is a 27-year breast cancer survivor, and I walk for her, and for all the other women in my life or in my friends' lives who have been touched by breast cancer. I walk in honor and in memory of them.

This year, the Sunnyvale Coasters will walk as an officially registered team. We intend to make a difference that will be visible in dollars and cents. Please sponsor me or one of "my" Sunnyvale Coasters. Thank you.
